The science and technology associated with pharmacy has progressed enormously over the past few decades. Significant advances in understanding of diseases have necessitated the need to optimize the drug therapy. The pharmaceutics include emerging concepts, new theories and their practical applications in development and production of “Dosage forms” and now they are appropriately refer to as “ drug delivery systems”. Biopharmaceutics is a major branch of pharmaceutical sciences. It concerns the relationship between the physical and chemical properties of a drug in a dosage form and the pharmacologic and toxicologic or clinical response observed after the administration. The study of biopharmaceutics has been extended beyond that of descriptive discipline by the development of pharmacokinetics, which concerns the study and characterization of the time course of therapeutics and adverse effects of drugs. Pharmaco-Kinetics involves the application of mathematics and biochemistry in a physiologic and pharmacologic context. The development of clinical pharmcokinetics is the culmination and logical outcome of advances in the area of pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacology, toxicology, analytical chemistry, biopharmceutics and therapeutics. Simply stated, clinical pharmacokinetics is a health science that deals with application of pharmacokinetics to the safe and effective therapeutic management of the individual patient The Department promotes the teaching and research of subjects in CCPR and thereby contributes to the health of citizens. The Department provides education in these fields for Bachelor of Pharmacy.
The mission of the CCPR Department of Pharmacology is to provide individuals a broad and solid foundation of the principles of pharmacology, and to train them to become critical thinkers who can generate experimentally testable hypotheses, and who draw significant conclusions from the results of their ongoing research. Our pharmacology department is equipped with all the required instruments and animals to carry out the research activities by the graduates. In the department of pharmacology, we learn about the action of various on the living tissues and then this knowledge is extended to the treatment of various diseases and disorders, thus form the science of therapeutics. It is obvious that both pharmacology and pharmacotherapeutics are extremely helpful to medical and premedical professions. At the same time these subjects are useful to professionals working on pharmaceutical research and marketing. It provides the marketing persons with the knowledge on the product that enables them to communicate to doctors.
The department of pharmaceutical chemistry is one of the central important branches of the institute. It is equipped with state of the art facilities to undertake academics in Bachelor of pharmacy course. In the frontier area of phytochemical research, the focus will be laid on isolation, characterization and evaluation of biological activities both by invitro and invivo models. Identification and validation of novel target sites for various therapeutic areas: design and synthesis of new chemical entities such as anti aids, antineoplastics, anti-inflammatory, antitubercular, antidepressants etc Analysis of drugs and pharmaceutical forms the backbone of research and development in pharmaceutical industry. The department focuses on training the graduate students on how to use the modern and newer instrumental analytical techniques such HPLC, HPTLC, UV-Visible Spectroscopy, Flourimetry, Flame photometry etc. Special emphasis is laid on the implementation of good laboratory practices and analytical skills. The department is actively involved in developing new analytical methods and their validation, characterization and quantitative estimation of possible impurities in various dosage forms.
